How to Determine the Extent of Water Damage in Your Home

Odor is a very simple diagnostic tool that anybody can use to help determine if a house has been water damaged. Mold and bacteria odors can altert you that something is still wet.
BASE TRIM
If the base trim around the perimeter of a room is cupped, warped or otherwise pulling away from the drywall, it can be a fairly reliable indicator of moisture content. Since wood expands when exposed to water, base trim that is pulling away can indicate obove normal moisture content and possible water damage.
DRYWALL & SHEETROCK
Discolored or deformed drywall can indicate previous or ongoing water damage. If it appears that the staining is from mold growth or active mold growth is detected, it’s important to promptly investigate and identify the source of the moisture. Drywall should be smooth, flexible and uniform in appearance.
